Bathurst golf vets relaxing with a drink or two after the game
Bathurst Golf Vets report for game Monday, June 23
Hi everyone,
A good field of 34 vets took part in the Bathurst golf club Monday vets comp.
The weather was cold with not much sunshine during the day, but it was not a deterrent to good scoring with six players playing to their handicap or better and having to have 32 points to get a ball on the ball sweep.
A countback was required to decide the winner on the day when Don Hinks and newcomer to vets’ golf Glenn Hope returned scores of 38 points. Don started slowly with only 16 points on the first nine, but he soon made-up ground on the back nine with an excellent 22 points to take out first place. Glenn started a little better than Don with 17 points on the first nine and 21 points on the back nine but had to settle for second. Glenn may lament scoring only one point on the 18th that cost him first place.
Another count back was also required to decide 3rd and 4th place when Bill Dickie and Leo Attard both returned scores of 37 points. An exceptional 11 points in the last three holes by Bill gave Leo no chance of winning the countback and had to settle for fourth place. Bill taking out third place.
The ball sweep went down to 32 points and the nearest to the pin winners were Jon Manton on the 4th, Peter Chaffey on the 8th, Trevor Dickie on the 13th and Glenn Hope on the 16th.
