Darrell Bourke checking out his shot during his run of 39 points
Bathurst Golf Vets comp report for Monday May 12
Hi everyone
The weather was nice and warm for an autumn day at Bathurst today, but golf was running hot on the golf course when 50 Bathurst golf vets got together for their Monday morning vets golf competition. All prize winners had to play well over their handicap and the rest of the field needed 32 points and some luck on the countback before they could get a ball on the ball sweep.
A countback was required to find today’s first place winner when Tony Farr and Darrell Bourke both returned scores of 39 points. Tony had a slow start to his round of 18 points on the first nine but had an excellent back nine of 21 points to take out first place. Darrell had two solid nines of 19 and 20 for his total of 39 points but had to settle for second place.
There was a four-way countback to decide the next three prize winners when Murray Jewkes, John Fagan, Trevor Kingham and Don Finlayson all returned scores of 37 points. After the computer had done its work, it found that Murray’s back nine of 20 was good for 3rd place, John got 4th place and Trevor got 5th place. Don may lament that couldn’t consolidate on a very good score of 22 points on the first nine holes and had to settle for a ball on the ball sweep.
The ball sweep went down to 32 points on a countback. Sorry Michelle, you just missed out.
Nearest to the pin winners were Mark McKinnon on the 4th, Don Finlayson on the 8th, Peter warren on the 13th and Alex Blackett on the 16th.
